Construction of a third 2,419-ton ocean patrol vessel (OPV) for the Venezuelan Navy has commenced at Navantia’s San Fernando shipyard near Cadiz, Spain.

In 2005, Navantia and the Navy of Venezuela signed a contract for the construction of eight patrol vessels for a total amount of more than EUR 1.2 billion: 4 coastal patrol vessels and 4 larger “Economic Area Vessels.”

On October this year,  the first vessel was delivered by Navantia at San Fernando-Puerto Real shipyard, in Southern Spain.
